Thittuvillai Jumma Mosque

Thittuvilai mosque

Historical Significance

There are places that seem to gather the goodness of many lives, quietly and without asking for notice. The Thittuvillai Jumma Mosque is one such place. For generations it has welcomed those who came in prayer, in gratitude, and in times of sorrow and celebration alike. It has stood through changing years, while the people around it have lovingly cared for it, each generation adding a little to what the one before had preserved.

When the annual festival arrives, families from Thittuvillai and the neighbouring villages return with cheerful hearts. Some bring gifts, some lend their hands in service, and others simply come to be together once more. In these simple acts of kindness and fellowship, the mosque continues to live as a treasured part of the community.

Sheikh Uthuman Mashajik

According to local tradition, the mosque is the resting place of the revered Sheikh Uthuman Mashajik, remembered with affection as Appatchi Appa and with deep respect as Uthuman Leppai Sahib. Those who speak of him do so not because of riches or worldly achievements, but because of the goodness they believe he carried throughout his life.

Traditional family records trace his spiritual lineage to Muhiyuddin Abdul Qadir Jilani. Within the community, it is remembered that Sheikh Uthuman belonged to the twenty-seventh generation of his family line and the fourteenth generation descending from Muhiyuddin Abdul Qadir Jilani. These traditions remain an important part of the mosqueโ€™s history and are preserved with great care.
